The biggest difference between water-based ink and solvent-based ink that water-based ink uses water instead of organic solvents, which significantly reduces VOC emissions, does not effect the health of human body, is not easy to burn. The UV ink is stable. The color is bright. The plate is not corroded. The operation is simple. The price is cheap. After printing, the adhesion is good. The water resistance is strong. The drying is fast. Therefore, it is especially suitable for package printed matter of food, beverage, medicine. It is universally recognized as an environmental protection printing material, and is also the only ink that is approved by the American food and drug association.


UV Ink Curing


The main difference between UV Ink and Solvent-Based Ink:

1.Different Solvents: the diluted monomer of photo-curing ink participates in the chemical reaction. The amount of its molecular is large. So its ability to reduce viscosity is limited. The ordinary ink solvent does not participate in the reaction with 100% volatile, but can greatly reduce the viscosity of ink.

2.Different Resin: optical polymerization and non-optical polymerization

3.Influence of Pigment: the pigment of ordinary ink has little effect on drying speed. Different color of ink are composed of different pigments, the same base material and the same additives. But light curing ink is different. Because different colors are selective absorption and conditional reflection of the light of the different spectral wavelengths, the curing speed of different colors is different. For example, white is total reflection of all visible light that it requires high energy. Black, for all of the light absorption in theory, but due to the shading effect of pigment granules on light, interferes with the deep solidification of ink. Therefore, it also needs higher energy, and the curing speed is low.

4.Photoinitiator: solvent ink Matt initiator depends on drying by solvent evaporation ink film. UV Curing Ink generates free radicals by the initiator, which can lead to the formation of resin. According to the design of requirements of curing, the same series with different colors of ink selects special light initiator and its own light initiator.

Water-based ink is widely used in printing various absorbent materials, such as paper, textiles, non-woven fabrics, etc.. The absorbent materials on the structure can also be printed with water-based ink, not necessarily the absorbent materials. Solvent ink is usually used for non absorbent materials, such as metal, polymer, etc., also can be applied to absorbent materials which requires rapid drying, like paper, etc..
