Glass can be divided into non-oxide glass and oxide glass according to the main components. Non-oxide glass varieties and quantities are few, mainly chalcogenide glass and halide glass.


Oxide glass is divided into silicate glass, borate glass, phosphate glass and so on.

1. Quartz glass:

Silica content of quartz glass is more than 99.5%, its low coefficient of thermal expansion, high temperature resistance, good chemical stability, ultraviolet and infrared light penetration, high melting temperature, high viscosity, forming is difficult. Quartz glass is mainly used in semiconductor, electric light source, optical communication, laser and other technologies and optical instruments.

The silica content of high silica glass is about 96%, and its properties are similar to quartz glass.


3. soda-lime glass:

Sodium-calcium GLASS mainly CONTAINS SILICA content, but also contains 15% sodium oxide and 16% calcium oxide, its low cost, easy molding, suitable for large-scale production, its output accounts for 90% of practical glass. Sodium calcium glass can be used in the production of glass bottles, flat glass, utensils, bulbs and so on.


4. Lead silicate glass:

The main components of lead silicate glass are silica and lead oxide, with a unique high refractive index and high volume resistance, and metal has good infiltration, can be used to manufacture light bulbs, vacuum tube core column, crystal glassware, flint optical glass, etc.


5. alumina silicate glass:

Alumina silicate glass with silica and alumina as the main components, softening deformation temperature is high, used in the production of discharge bulbs, high temperature glass thermometer, chemical combustion tube and glass fiber.

6. borosilicate glass:

Also known as Pyrex glass or hard glass, silicon oxide and barium oxide as the main components, with good heat resistance and chemical stability, borosilicate glass was invented in 1912, its trade name Pyrex.

It is a kind of glass material with high temperature resistance and good thermal shock resistance. Borosilicate glass can be used to make coffee pots, stoves, laboratory glassware, chandeliers, and other equipment that works in high temperatures. It is very resistant to acid and chemical media corrosion and has a very low thermal expansion rate, so it is used to make the lenses of astronomical telescopes and other accurate instruments. In addition, borosilicate glass can also be used as resin reinforcement fiber.


7. phosphate glass:

Phosphate glass with phosphorus pentoxide as the main component, low refractive index, low dispersion, used in optical instruments. In summary, it can be seen that quartz glass and high silicon oxygen glass are the preferred materials for ultraviolet perspective Windows, but quartz glass has a high manufacturing cost.
